Dr. Mary continues to pursue her interest in art and music, a passion she shares with her husband, Craig Hammes, M.D., a retired radiologist. In July 2002 they traveled to China to bring home then-15-month-old Stephanie, who was born in the Yunan province of China. Stephanie is a graduate of Colorado Mesa Universty, majoring in Vocal Music. Nikaila, adopted by Dr. Mary in 1998, from the Guangdong province of China, is a massage therapist in the Kansas City area.
Although she is licensed in three states, Dr. Mary remains committed to Delta. It's not only a great place to raise kids, she loves the fact she can't go to the grocery store without running into someone she knows and loves.
“I love the fact people know I want to know what's going on in their lives, and I love the way the community has embraced the adoption of our daughters,” she says. “I also love that people here have given me a place to express myself through my art and my music.”
Dr. Mary welcomes the opportunity to sing at special events, and greatly enjoys giving presentations on a variety of subjects, from China, art and music, to health-related topics.
Dr. Mary remains an active sculpter and clay artist. You can see examples of her art and music at her office as well as at the links to the left.
